AFA2019 Mock Draft

By Doug

Welcome to the AFA Mock! Charles Davis said his 5 developmental league mocks was enough for him this year so you're stuck with me again. This is strictly for entertainment purposes so don't head to Vegas or call Pete the numbers guy and bet the farm. Picks are solely based on need as perceived by me and ratings/stats. Last year I hit the 1st 3 on the nose and 5 overall. Hitting .313 is good in the majors not so much in this line of business. I will try not to ruin my own mock this year by trading for one of these picks like last year (yeah right, you know I will!). Find a good toilet, relax and enjoy.

1. Cleveland - The Force made 4 picks in last year's 1st round. 4th overall T9 Williams went down early with a knee so that was unlucky. The best pick ended up being the last one. Ed's kid who turned out to not only be a heart throb with an 8 pack of abs but a pretty damn good running back. Looking over their roster they are building well but have a couple of obvious needs. Having only 1 and a half starting lineman makes me lean to the guy who they call generational...

G10 QUENTON NELSON

2. La$ Vega$ - Plenty of holes. Gronk's last season. Very solid draft last year. That being said David Carr has won 20 games for the Plague since being a 3rd round pick in 2015. This is Vegas baby! They need more. They need excitement. They need entertainment. They need stars! I am seeing $$$ signs. They need this guy...

QB BAKER MAYFIELD

3. Arizona - DeShaun Watson is legit. That alone makes last year's draft a success despite some guys being a bit disappointing. The Tombstone will look towards their defense this year and grab their captain for the next decade

S10 DERWIN JAMES

4. Carbon - Warren and the Monoxide had their first losing season together last year after 2 playoffs appearances including a trip to the Alt Bowl. They seem ready to get back into the hunt and are lucky enough to have a choice of great players. The obvious pick at this point is...

OLB10 DARIUS LEONARD

5. San Antonio - The Vikings stumbled to 6 wins after an 11 win season during Dak's rookie year. Plenty of options here. The defense could use some more reinforcements. The o-line needs help. Forget all that, let's just outscore everybody! For the second straight year a RB in the 1st round? Hell ya!

RB SAQUAN BARKLEY

6. Hollywood - The 5x Champs find themselves once again in the top half of the draft. That is a good place to be though. Defense seems to be the logical pick here. Which player though? How about that Cowboy?

LB9 LEIGHTON VANDER ESCH

7. Albuquerque - The Rattlesnakes traded last year's 1st rounder for Jimmy G. That didn't work out very well. Dino sent some associates to teach his QB how to slide. They may or may not have brought bats with them. That means Eli gets one more year in the saddle! Options galore again but the pick is....

CB8 DENZEL WARD

8. Krakow - Larry Legend was so close to getting the Kielbasa into the playoffs and their 1st winning season since 2003. But not close enough. Now Andrew Luck is back and seemingly better then ever. A few holes still need plugging but the biggest need seems to be in the secondary so the pick is...

S8 JESSIE BATES III

9. Indianapolis - The Cobras went from 2nd overall pick last year straight to the playoffs. To keep the momentum going the defense looks like it needs an upgrade. Indy picks...

ILB9 JAYON BROWN

10. Kansas City - Amazingly went from 0-18 and the first pick in the draft to 9-9 and the playoffs. Scott deserves a standing ovation for that one. Well 1 thing KC won't be taking with this pick is a safety. I'd bet the house on that. Where to though? How about we get last year's 1st overall Myles Garrett a running partner? Another dozen sacks never hurts.

OLB7 BRADLEY CHUBB

11. Denver - Long known as the league's best player available no matter who we already have team the Demons this year never mind doubling up at positions. That being said Dave is filling a big need with...

WR CALVIN RIDLEY

12. San Diego - Welcome to the AFA draft Robert! Thanks go out to Gary for 13 years of dedication. Robert is taking over a team that is always in the mix thanks to the never aging demon Tom Brady. JJ Watt holds down the defense as usual and it looks pretty good. I like this pick to be an offensive one. RB or WR? Flip a coin maybe. There is depth at RB so the pick will be...

WR D.J. MOORE

13. Pittsburgh - Mr Rough and his Riders will definitely be in the hunt this year per usual. There is a certain edge rusher still on the board which will be mighty enticing but the bigger help will be the cousin of the 10th pick...

RB NICK CHUBB

14. New York - Win now mode for the Knights. Dee Ford fits here but I already picked him 4 years ago in the 9th before throwing him into a trade so pass. With an o-line that is very pass block happy NY will grab a mauler in...

T8/6 MIKE McGLINCHEY

15. Chicago - The Caravan had a crazy year as they used 4 different starting QBs and made it all the way to the Alt Bowl. A 5th QB also got on the field and this year he plans to stay there. Patrick Mahomes looks to finish the job and win it all this year. He'll need some more blocking. With that in mind the 15th pick will be...

G8 AUSTIN BLYTHE

16. Alaska - Now 3 time champs the Grizzlies look to go back to back. Though not a position of need, age and durability are question marks. With that in mind the pick is...

OLB9 DEE FORD
