AFA2020 Mock Draft

By Scott W

Here we go! Good luck this season.

Arizona kicks off this years AFA draft and selects Defensive Rookie of the Year DE Nick Bosa. This was the easiest selection and fills a huge hole for the Tombstone. Bosa will partner with DT DeForest Buckner to form an exceptional young base to rebuild their defense around.

Denver has 11 picks in the first three rounds and can go in several directions here. They choose to select their franchise quarterback and Offensive Rookie of the Year Kyler Murray. As the new face of the franchise, Murray will bring a more balanced offensive attack to an already solid running game lead by Elliot, Mack and Gurley.

Las Vegas select RB Josh Jacobs. With the future of Pillip Lindsay a question mark, the Plague pick up a bell cow in Jacobs who many thought should have won Offensive Rookie of the Year. With 1,150 yards, he joins Dereck Carr and the receiving tandem of Cooper & Cooper to help lift Vegas’ offence out of the cellar.

San Antonio fills a need, giving Dak Prescott a 1,000+ yard wide receiver in A.J. Brown. While not rated by many as the top receiver coming out of college, his 8TD and 20.2 YPC make him the ideal fit to bring some explosiveness to the Vikings offense. The 226 lbs. Brown and TE George Kittle will partner to give defensive coordinators nightmares.

Carbon add DL Quinnen Williams to give the Monoxide some flexibility along an already solid defensive line. Williams and DT Grady Jarrett will be a formidable pairing to stop running backs for years to come. The legal team for the Monoxide is already working on their case to keep Williams from jail time for a recent criminal possession of a weapon charge.

Denver adds DE Josh Allen and his 10 sacks with their second pick of the first round to bolster an otherwise mediocre defensive line. Allowing a league high 604 points against, the Demons will need to add several other pieces to their defense; Allen is a great start to build round.

Kansas City adds some depth to their receiver core with WR DK Metcalf. The Beast have been searching for a replacement for Doug Baldwin since his retirement last year. Having set the rookie record for receiving yards in a playoff game (160), Kansas City believe they have found WR Mike Evans and TE Travis Kelce a new long-term running mate.

Krakow adds some youth along an aging defensive line. DE Maxx Crosby and his 10 sacks add a spark to a good front seven lead by an exceptional linebacking unit. Pairing Crosby with aging DE Brandon Graham will allow DT’s Poe and Shelton, who both found new homes in the winter league, to stuff the run. The Kielbasa get at least a couple more solid years from the reworked line.

Albuquerque add the 2018 Butkus award winner, ILB Devin White. The Rattlesnakes have been searching for a stud ILB to partner with teammate Khalil Mack for years. With the futures of journeymen Bradham and Davis questionable, the best player available is the perfect fit for a defense with a few super stars already in place.

San Diego reloads on offense, giving Tom Brady another target in WR Terry McLaurin. With 900+ yards and 7 TD’s he partners with Calvin Ridley to form a solid, young receiving tandem. Although they considered taking Tom’s successor here, Brady has shown just enough to take at least a couple more deep runs into the playoffs.

Alaska with their 15-3 regular season record have the luxury of going in several directions here. With the best defense in the league last year, they decide to give Drew Brees another weapon and the best receiver available in TE Tyler Higbee. The Grizzlies are ready to make a run at the Championship now and before QB Josh Allen takes over for Brees.

Pittsburgh is loaded on both sides of the ball and with their 16-2 regular season record were upset in the playoffs last year. The Roughriders decide to upgrade their running game to take some pressure off superstar QB Lamar Jackson and select RB Raheem Mostert. His 5.6 YPC average and 8 TD’s make Pittsburgh a favorite to dominate the regular season again. It just might be enough to win the Championship this year.

Indianapolis choose to upgrade their secondary and select DB Jonathan Jones. Jones gives the Cobras some flexibility and will partner with Levi Wallace for an above average cornerback duo. With McCourtey and Amos at the safety positions and excellent health ratings from the entire group, the secondary will be a strength on the already solid defense.

Hollywood has solid players and depth at almost all positions so can go in many directions here. The Stars choose to continue adding to their linebacking corps, adding speed and athleticism with ILB Devin Bush. He and last years first round pick OLB LVE will be the building blocks to keep Hollywood’s defence improving and getting younger.

Chicago’s offense is stacked with talent, including four 1,100+ yard receivers, QB Patrick Mahomes and back up QB Aaron Rogers. With that confidence on offence, the Caravan shift their focus to defence and upgrade their secondary with S Jimmie Ward. With an improvement against the pass, and impressive defensive line that combined for 44 sacks, Chicago will continue to challenge for a championship.

New York selects CB K’Waun Williams with the final pick of the first round. Williams becomes the Knights top CB and with fellow corners Fuller & Harris Jr. and safeties Adams, Collins & Peppers are ready to slow down any receiving unit. There are a lot of strong threats to New York’s title this year but the Knights look ready to defend.
